Lesley Heller presents a solo exhibition of recent small-scale multi-media collages by Amanda C. Mathis in the Project Space.

Predominantly known for her large-scale site specific installations which often incorporate discarded elements from DIY renovations, Mathis’ small-scale collages bring these larger conversations on domestic space into a more intimate and personal scale. Her works are explorations on the everyday architecture of dwellings and the overlapping yet disjointed elements of how we recollect and piece together the places we pass on a daily basis.

Silent Partner: William Dilworth, Katarina Jerinic & Emmy Mikelson

Fran Holstrom

Aquarius proudly presents Silent Partner, a three-person exhibition in an ongoing collaboration with Neesh Interactive. This pop-up exhibition considers artists featured on Neesh’s online platform (www.neesh.io), curated by Fran Holstrom. This exhibition presents the work of artists with vastly different practices, related by their interest in our urban landscape, the medium of photography, and the boundaries imposed by both. Please join us for an opening reception featuring newly realized works by: William Dilworth, Katarina Jerinic and Emmy Mikelson.

Opening: Friday, May 3rd 7pm - 9pm
On View: Sundays, May 5 – 19th Noon - 6pm
Cocktails: Sunday, May 19th from 3 - 6pm

“Landscape is our silent partner. Yes the earth can roar and the earth can scream but its’ nature is to quietly exist. So much so that we as people can become disengaged from our dependence on that partnership. Artwork that refocuses us in any way on landscape asks us to come to our senses and commune with, rather than ravage, the earth.”

The above is an excerpt from an email written by artist Bill Dilworth to the curator. For images and full Press Release, please click here.

Alex Paik Solo Exhibition "Caesura" at Praxis NY

Fran Holstrom

RECEPTION: Saturday from 3pm-5pm. I hope that you can make it!
ON VIEW: March 13th - March 16th, from 10 to 6 pm

CAESURA…metaphor of silence, of breath, the sacred emptiness of
Asian traditions, the pure potential between each thought or action,
our opportunity to transcend.

In the artist’s own words, “My work explores perception, reflected color, and improvisation within structure, taking cues and ideas from contrapuntal music and post minimalism. For the past few years I have been focusing on site-responsive paper installations that focus on a single geometric unit as its base. These installations are temporary and improvised onsite, with each exhibition becoming a different variation of the same piece. There is a tenderness and sadness in both the fragility of the materials as well as the ephemeral nature of the work’s form but at the same time there is an unlimited, even optimistic, potential for recombination.”

Ellie Krakow's Arm Armature series has been getting the attention it deserves with a solo exhibition titled "Square, Line, Circle" at LES gallery Miranda Kuo. This work reimagines museum armatures, with bold color photography of the artist's own upper limbs positioned to mimic the original, mounted on 3D displays resembling wet clay. Described as 'furniture-pedestals' this series has been shown at several venues in the last year including Nurture Art and Present Company.
