Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York presents a solo exhibition by Katarina Jerinic, a participant in the CCNY 2017 Workspace Residency.
In this solo exhibitions of photographs, documents of Jerinic holding various handmade nautical signal code flags while wandering the streets of New York City. The flags provide a system of communication understood from a distance, and used when lost at sea or, in Jerinic’s case, the sidewalk. The artist’s flags relay simple, urgent messages such as “You are running into danger” and “I require assistance”. Many images depict the artist in a landlocked position in her local stomping ground of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Paired with a 27 ft flag in gorgeous cyanotype blue, shows the surface of deep, tumultuous water.
