This painting is from a series by Mike Olin which often comprises a central hue pulled across the ground horizontally and eroded by the gravitational pull of paint thinner and string, with dabs, smooshes and splats of paint encroaching from the edges. Olin incorporates weathered objects plucked from the streets of Brooklyn including fun stickers, price tags, toys/remnants and shards of broken glass. These recognizable elements from popular culture anchor and compete with painterly elements, creating a philosophical argument on which is more real.

While Olin's work at first appears to have a murky and almost sticky visual quality, viewers often find a poetic beauty in it's alignment with the 'truth of nature' and cycles of life.
